• Many road toll booths have ads on them.
• Product placement is a large part of the movie industry.
• Television news stations openly take public relations-packaged video
news releases and roll them into their broadcasts as though they are
homegrown reports.

There are a number of online paid review services that have been given flak as
though they should be held to a higher standard than mainstream media
organizations that never disclosed payola even when they operated as market
monopolies.
Reviews
Amazon and many other sites are leveraging their user experience to create
extensible central review databases.
Recently a few blog advertisement networks launched that aim to allow advertisers
to tap decentralized review networks. I was a part owner in one of them, called
ReviewMe and a friend of mine owns Blogsvertise. These networks are looking
for ways to sell influence more efficiently than AdSense or other similar ads do.
If advertisers are responsive to the reviews, they may be able to find new markets,
better target ads, improve their perceived value, and improve conversion rates. If
their products are of exceptional quality, their initial ad may lead to a viral link
campaign discussing their product.
Q & A
Amazon, Yahoo!, Microsoft, and numerous smaller companies are trying to
leverage users to answer questions. If these large companies leverage their
exposure to distribute these questions and answers, it may be a cheap form of
marketing to answer a few relevant questions.
Widgets
If you are struggling to build link equity and mindshare, you might be able to do
well packaging your service and allowing others to include it in their websites.
Google Gadgets and many other systems are allowing people to easily plug
dynamic features and third party data into static sites.
Lenses
Work.com and Squidoo allow you to create topic focused guide pages that can be
reviewed by others. These sites can act as easy link sources, and also reinforce your
market position as a market leader in your marketplace.
